This is portrait of Johannie. It was taken last year in Jersey City, NJ. The original was shot with a DSLR and looks like a clean, commercial portrait. I’ve added a texture overlay to make it look a little more like a tintype. Threw in some selective blur (both straight Gaussian and some motion blur around the face). I also boosted the contrast a little. Looking at true tintypes for guidance.
I’m a big fan of actual alternative photographic processes. Digital is so cold. So, we bend the pixels around to create the look of something real, to represent an idea of someone or something. A portrait. An homage to another time in the art and science of image making.
