I recently interviewed Texas-based photographer, Kat Swansey to learn more about her approach to landscapes and photographing abandoned places. Watch this video to view some of Kat’s best work to date, and how she went about capturing these amazing scenes.
As you’ll see in the video, Kat brings an enthusiasm for exploring to her work, as well as a sense of compassion for many of the structures she encounters. She describes a kind of empathy for the people and families she imagines could have ties to the abandoned homes and businesses.
Her preferred medium is color negative film. 35mm cameras and minimal additional gear keep things simple; her focus is on the subject. Simple captures are made with her Canon Elan 7ne or AE-1 Program and basic lenses.
