When learning how to work with flash, it’s easy to get confused about why certain things just aren’t working as you’d expect. Some people get tripped up because they don’t understand the important differences between flash (instantaneous light) and constant light, and how those differences affect exposure. Or, how camera settings relate to each type of lighting.
This lesson is like a mini crash course in these topics. Watch it as many times as necessary to soak it in. And follow that up with the PDF, Camera and Flash Exposure included here.
You can proceed to the lessons that follow, but I encourage you to return to this lesson and the PDF every now and then if you want to really understand WHY things work the way they do when it comes to exposure, not just HOW. The “how” will only take you so far. Eventually, you’ll find yourself in situations that require a real understanding of flash exposure, and I’m sure you’ll want to handle those situations like a pro.
