There are rules, and you can choose to follow them just because you think you’re supposed to. Some photographers will level criticism over composition, color rendition, noise/grain, a turn of the head, intersecting lines… you name it. I used to pay more attention to the rules when I was more concerned with avoiding rejection and criticism; when I didn’t want to be proven wrong. Then, I realized that to meet with the expectations of the many, I’d have nothing interesting to offer. I’m more secure about my own path now.
