Strip light softboxes can be used as rim lights, hair lights, hard side lights, and background lighting. But many photographers are using these long, narrow lights as key lights, too.
In this video, I demonstrate the assembly and use of a set of Godox 14″x63″ softboxes. If you haven’t used this type of modifier before, I think one thing that might surprise you is the pattern of the light throw produced by a strip light. The use of the included egg crate grids helps narrow the output, but generally, the pattern is much rounder than you might expect.
Still, there’s potential to make portraits with interesting vignetting effects if the strip box is positioned close enough to the subject.
