Camera Exposure Modes Explained

Understanding your camera’s modes is one of the key steps in evolving from a beginner to a more advanced photographer. In my latest video, I break down each of the primary camera modes—AUTO, Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual—giving you a clear understanding of when and how to use each one. Whether you’re capturing fast-moving subjects or focusing on getting that perfect depth of field, knowing which mode to use can make all the difference.

I start with the basics by explaining what exposure is and how it’s controlled through the Exposure Triangle: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Then, I take you through each camera mode, discussing its purpose and how it affects your exposure settings. From AUTO mode, which is great for quick snapshots but limits your creative control, to Manual mode, where you have full control over every aspect of your shot.

I also touch on the special and creative modes that some cameras offer, which can be useful for specific scenarios but might not always give you the results you’re aiming for.
