In this assignment, you’ll create three lighting setups based on what you’ve learned in this module. You’ll start with Clamshell lighting (which we demonstrated with strip softboxes). Then try your hand at double side lighting, which you can think of as a variation on the strip light placement we showed you earlier. And finally, attempt some intentional background lighting independent of your subject’s lighting.
As you work through each setup, build your lighting one light at a time. Take notes on your camera and flash settings, distances, modifiers, and any creative adjustments you make. Behind-the-scenes shots of your setup can also be helpful for future reference.
When you’re done, you can submit your images along with a brief description of your gear and lighting choices. Be sure to download the assignment handout for full instructions and submission details.
