By now, you’ve got a solid handle on using a key, a fill, and a backlight—whether that’s a rim, kicker, or hair light. That’s a strong foundation for creating quality portraits.
In this module, we’ll start branching out with some additional lighting setups and styles that can take your work even further. We’ll look at ways to modify and expand on what you already know—using two lights for backlighting or side-lighting effects, working with background lighting for clean white or ethereal looks, and creating beauty-style portraits with clamshell lighting.
Think of this as an introduction to more advanced setups you can try when you’re ready to get creative and craft something a little different for your subject—or your own portfolio.
